Why has my Bonsai died?
I was given a small indoor bonsai as a gift a few months ago. To begin with it was fine, and I was using baby bio feed (recommended to me) aswell as watering it regularly etc. It was on my bay window sill and after a few weeks the leaves were browning so I moved it onto the mantlepiece. It still wasnt getting any better so I moved it into my room upstairs which is light and airy. Shortly after this it died completely and now the leaves are brown and cripsy. Does anyone know what the problem was? I followed the very basic instructions given on the label.
I am not sure what type of tree you have so I cannot tailor a specific answer for you, but from plenty of experience, this is what most likely happened provided that you did not over or under water (check watering on BonsaiCareBasics.com to determine this).
You tree was probably a partial shade tree and by placing it on the bay window, you exposed it to elevated temperature and direct sunlight that ended up burning the leaves and potentially evaporating all the water form the tray. The next wrong thing that you did was to move it, not once, but twice. Every time a bonsai is moved it suffers minor to severe stress which can be crippling if it is in a weakened condition (like yours was in). You probably should have left it on the bay window or close to it to minimize change sin condition and simply places somethingg to provide some shade like a screen.
However, but writing that there was a label, I am guessing it was a commercial type tree, probably a juniper, and honestly, those are very sickly and weak trees. You should start by creating your own bonsai. Check out BonsaiCareBasics.com for info on how to do that.
Hope this helps and best of luck!
