Steps to plant a tree properly

In the planting of trees, their adult height and spread must be considered before a selection done. Tempting as are the nursery catalogs, it is necessary to choose carefully, especially in average lot, because crowding spoils the growth and appearance of trees, especially species of trees.

In general, it is the wisest and most economical plant young trees. Plant a tree mature is difficult and, if done professionally, costly. However, if a mature tree is absolutely necessary for a terrace or in the controls, you can justify the expense. What you buy is the time it takes a small tree matures.

Today you can plant trees when leaf wilting aerosols using a test over the seal of the leaves against moisture loss until the roots develop.
This, however, costs money and is more risky than buying your tree and sown in spring (best time) or late fall or winter. If you plant a tree over 6 feet tall, he will suffer less setback if moved with a mound strawberry-pie.

Land preparation described in the previous chapter is useful for planting more trees and shrubs. But since the system the root must have fertile soil when planting, special measures must be taken. Dig a hole 2 meters deep and at least a foot wider each way for cover the entire spectrum of the roots. The bottom of the hole should be broken with a fork and mix with peat, mulch, compost, etc.

Manure should be used sparingly and only in the top of the hole, as it burns the roots. The more you can cultivate your hole, the better for your tree. Once planted, they can grow around it, but not the roots. If you strike a subsoil of gravel or clay, it is very likely to find anywhere near a house where a tree can grow this ground should be removed and a good garden soil humus, or better yet, replaced him.

If you plant a seed that has not rolled and ball mill, to be protected for "vacation" in a flower bed in which vacancies can be kept before planting as inactive. This means that laying on its side and covering the roots with good soil. If you take the land, give it a mud bath or "puddle" he said. Waterlogging protects the roots from exposure to air before planting and also all the air pockets that may exist after sowing.

After completing the hole depth required by the plant roots, flooding with water to compact the soil at the bottom, where it has passed, place the tree in position in the growing and compact the soil in it. Use a stick or shovel handle to work the soil around the roots, and make sure no air pockets. Separate natural roots, tree planting or less at the same depth in the nursery or its former location.

When the hole is two thirds full, trample again and fill with water. Do not sign up the remaining soil, so water flows into the trunk.
A tree cutter and ball feet are dug with a ball filled with rich and heavy silt was growing in the nursery for years, its root system thus amply covered and protected.

The ball is in place and confirmed by a layer of wire and burlap. To plant, put the tree in the hole which is slightly lower than it was in kindergarten. Preparing the soil at this depth, as indicated above. Dig the hole about twice the size of the ball and the plant at a time.

If the soil is dry at planting, fill the hole with water and soak away before planting. Cut the fabric top if the ball is put in place, back to 3 or 4 inches. Plant ball, burlap and hessian all rot quickly.

If you plant a tree large, which is transported in a truck fell to the ground by winches, rolled into a skateboard track and operated in the exact center of the hole on a single card. A rope holding the truck at the base of the tree trunk helps to position the shaft.

After the tree is planted, the reduction is good. Greatly reduced at least one third of pruning branches. It is necessary to block the trees with ropes so that roots will not be broken by the wind. Use a wire around the trunk and three guy wires.

For the first year after planting, more culture than you can do better. Keep weeds away, also with straw or mulch, compost and fertilizer in spring and fall will help keep moisture in the soil.
