If I cut off a branch of a jade tree..?
will it grow? i'm planing on making a bonsai tree and that plant is commonly used. if i cut of a branch from the one i have and put it in a pot with soil will it grow?
Yes it will grow, but you have to take some care.
For the best results your cutting should have at east 3 pairs of leaves.
Try not to make your cutting too close to a set of leaves.
After you make your cutting, also clip off the lowest pair of leaves.
Allow the wounds to dry out for a day or two before you plant it. Jades are succulents and need a good amount of water in their stems and leaves to stay healthy. By letting the cuts dry a bit and seal over, the cutting will not "drain out" from the fresh cut when placed in the soil. Plant your cutting just a little deeper than where you cut the lower leaves from. Once the wounds have calloused over new roots will form from the base and where the lower leaves were cut. Don't water very much for a while since there are no roots in the soil to take it up into the plant. Water by misting the leaves & stem with a spray bottle once a day. The cutting will absorb the water it needs this way. You should get roots growing in about two weeks depending on the temperature. (warmer=better).
